Maybe it should be the reverse :lol:
Ha ha,its all smoke and mirrors and magic tricks. :lol:

Your HEVC fixes are working a treat too !
And I'm really impressed with the extra speed the updated opengl-meson8-r4p1 API has given the wee beastie.

OpenELEC 6.95.1.0 - Kodi Jarvis 16.0 Alpha4 was working properly for me.
It was only the VFQ Editions that had recent issues.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. Actually I don't have a ppmgr_3d_mode. 3d playback seems to fail with an entirely different error. I have attached my logs. Hopefully they provide a clue.

The Hopefully fixed - new VFQ Isengard is up on MEGA now.
I've also given the 23.976(23Hz) pixel clock a tweak.

Nice, lesson learnt is that it is not a good idea to start changing code whilst tired.

Jarvis will likely be up tomorrow. Sleep time here, thanks for everyone's help.

anyone having issues with their C1+ forgetting how to work? It seems like every 2 weeks or so of normal use (streaming about 3-4 hours of video nightly) I come home to try and stream video and the ODROID only shows black screen. I still get the blinking "heartbeat" light and red power light, but cant get KODI to boot.

I'm glad your going to put up Jarvis builds.
For some reason with isengard when calling a bash script from within kodi using System.Exec(path to sh) the video Black's out, audio still works. Video returns with a systemctl restart
Running the bash script from ssh works properly, only from within kodi does it fail
But yet in Jarvis this call works properly

Same thing for me. either way.
Weird, I've had no problems at all with booting on the C1. I don't suppose all you guys with boot issues are running a C1+ ?
I've withdrawn the build for the time being.

Anyway, I've gone back to the old build system and plugged all the Nice Fixes back into Kodi Isengard 15.2rc3 :D
It's up on the first page.
I will also backport the fix for kaba-kakao, just got to wait for the next compile to finish.
**EDIT: That fix is already in the latest Isengard on Page #1
Yes. I have the C1+ too.

I really appreciate the effort you are all putting into this. Almost restores my faith in humankaind... :-)

Just updated to OpenELEC 5.95.6.2 - Kodi Isengard 15.2rc3 aka the VFQ edition

It works very well, except that the HardKernel IR Remote no longer works.

Hi,

thanks a lot wrxtasy and all the contributors who make Kodi/Openelec possible on Odroid !

@wrxtasy
On your 5.95.5.0 image I use successfully an USB soundcard stick powered by a CM108 chip, providing spdif output.

Unfortunately after installing the update tars 5.95.5.1 or 5.95.5.2, there is no more sound going through the spdif
(the spdif port/usb device is still available and selected in the audio output options)

Would you have an idea why ?

Best regards and thank you a lot !!

Just uploaded a test version, this should fix the IR Remote issue.

@scottishtag:
The audio changes in the newer versions of OpenELEC are due HardKernel changes in the new Kernel to support the HiFi Shield.
asound.conf changed from this:

EDIT: forget all that below, looks like a new Kernel will be needed, the Hardkernel guys have it fixed:
https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/com ... 271f10df68

Code: Select all

pcm.!default {
  type plug
  slave {
  pcm "hw:0,1"
  }
}
ctl.!default {
  type hw
  card 0
}
to this:

Code: Select all

pcm.!default {
  type plug
  slave {
    pcm "hw:0,0"
  }
}
ctl.!default {
  type hw
  card 0
}
Try the new test version posted above first and if that fails copy the first lot of code above to a asound.conf plain text file and put this in the ConfigFiles folder.

This test version re-incorporates the IR Remote commands from the Hardkernel remote. Thank you.

However, I was using (flawlessly on the previous build) a Logitech Harmony remote, as follows:

1. I taught the Harmony all the commands available on the Hardkernel remote,

2. I configured other buttons on the Harmony remote (e.g. Play, Pause, FF, Rewind, Subtitles, etc) to emulate those Microsoft MCE Keyboard commands that Kodi recognises.

This gave me all the commands to fully control Kodi with the Harmony. With this recent test build you provided, I only get the commands in 1 to work (i.e. the basic HK remote commands).

Hopefully, you can also re-incorporate whatever it was that gave me the full range of commands for Kodi.

Many thanks

This build ("OpenELEC-Odroid-C1-6.95.1.1.runnerway.HEVC.fixes.tar") has the same kernel panic as with your previous builds.

Code: Select all

/init: line 403: syntax error: unexpected "}" (expecting "fi")
interestingly enough dropping the update into the update folder didn't do anything upon rebooting. (on 5.95.6.2)
I had to put the update into /storage/.update/ (the same as raspberry pi) in order for the update to happen.

Was a long shot anyway.
I've standardised the way all future versions will Update going forward (/storage/.update/) To bring it into line with the OpenELEC Wiki help page and to avoid confusion.

Isengard 15.2 final has nearly finished compiling. :)
I still cannot believe how fast OpenELEC is on this little wee beastie with a small Overclock !
Now quite a bit quicker indeed than an Overclocked RPi2.

Indeed it is very much quicker than my overclocked rpi2.
Should the samba changes happen automatically or is it because I have modified my samba.conf in/storage/.config and it's still pointing to the old update directory.

I can easily change this easily but just thinking for the guys who won't know how to change if they will need to.

Its all Automatic if you SMB login by following the OpenELEC Wiki for .tar updating.
I've never touched my samba.conf when I swapped and change Update directories internally in OpenELEC when logging in using OSX. Windows may be different.

Windows should be the same.
I guess it will be because I have the custom samba.conf to open up the .kodi directory to smb.
It also includes all the other default maps so it will still be pointing update to /storage/update

So best to leave a quick note for anyone else who has added manual samba mount points

edit your /storage/.config/samba.conf
change

Code: Select all

[Update]
  path = /storage/update
  available = yes
  browsable = yes
  public = yes
  writable = yes
  root preexec = mkdir -p /storage/update
to

Code: Select all

Isengard Final Chapter up on page #1

Trivia: there are 20 patches I've plugged into Isengard from all sorts of platforms and Repos - RPi. Linux, WeTek, Kodi Devs and Oversun.
Some have come from upstream, backported from Jarvis too!

Enjoy :)

Hi @wrxtasy, thanks a lot for your answer,

I tried putting back the original version of asound.conf as suggested (I saved it in /storage/.config/, is that right ?), but to no effect, other than removing "Default (ODROID-HDMI S/PDIF)" from available output devices in System/Audio output. No more sound out of S/PDIF usb.

I also tried your "5.95.6.2.Remote.test" tar update, but no sound either going through my usb S/PDIF.
(And I just tried your last 5.95.6.2 SD img build as well, same problem)

Is there something else I could try, or logs I can extract, to try to debug this issue ?

best regards !

I've found a little tweak that didn't work so good on the Pi but works very nicely on the C1+
Enabling Union Dirty Region rendering. Doing this has completely removed the text tearing when scrolling.
If anyone wants to try it and report.
SSH to your C1

Code: Select all

nano /storage/.kodi/userdata/advancedsettings.xml
copy the following

Code: Select all

    <advancedsettings>
      <gui>
        <algorithmdirtyregions>1</algorithmdirtyregions>
        <nofliptimeout>0</nofliptimeout>
      </gui>
    </advancedsettings>
just right click in the SSH window to paste the data
hit Ctrl + X to exit
Press Y to confirm save
Press Enter to write filename

Code: Select all

reboot
wave goodbye to a bit more of GUI glitches

just hoping for a working jarvis build so I can control the Ambilight from within kodi then I might let this device take over from my RPi2

noticing an issue with cache & Video queue saturation (possibly network related)

When watching Low bitrate files 1-10Mbit the VQ% steadily drops to 0% where it starts skipping frames (a few per second)
when watching high bitrate files >30Mbit the VQ% & cache:0 B % both gradually drop to 0 where playback stops while it fetches more data.
This happens both with and without local file buffering enabled.
I'm not really sure where to start diagnosing this.
I have tried with the RPi2 using the same network cabling which handles the same files perfectly. Using the same NFS mounting options @ OS level
I'm a bit confused why the C1+ isnt able to keep the cache & video queue saturation full when its supposed to be a 1GB (i know its only about 450) compared to the Pi's humble 100MB ethernet which manages just fine

@ scottishtag,
Can you try the try the following in /storage/.config/

Code: Select all

pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
        pcm "hw:1,0"
        format S16_LE
        rate 44100
    }
}

ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 1
}
This has come from this thread:
http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=8665

Kodi Audio Settings may also have to be set:
Settings > System > Audio Output > Limit Sampling Rate (kHz) > 44.1

If it works I will put it in /etc/udev/rules.d

Nice work A. ;)
I forgot all about that oldie but goodie. Yes it does improve horizontal text scrolling tearing.
Here is my complete advancedsettings.xml file, this will also be going into a updated .tar soon.

I see the VQ% start somewhere around 75% and drops down to 1 -4% and fluctuates, but I don't then see skipped frames in the video displayed looking at it visually. Video does not stop either.

The Network Buffer is "Forward:25.00 MB 100%" when using my advancedsettings.xml posted above. It usually 100% which means full.

Is this Frame skipping something you see Visually or are you just looking at the Codec info Window ?
If its the codec info window only with the skips increasing, you can safely ignore it.
It's a know false error, I believe between Kodi and the AMCodec counting frames displayed.
My WeTek Core show exactly the same. Must be a Kodi / AMLogic thing.

Ok thanks for the info on the false codec info display. That is what I was looking at for skipped frame reference. I'll try to upload you a sample when home from work.
I changed buffermode from 1 to 0 as I have no need to buffer my NFS shares.
Even re-enabling the 25MB cache just results in forward: 25mb 100%
Both mb & % drop to 0 then playback pauses for a few seconds.
This is with a >30Mb/s test video.
I don't see this behavior with my normal bitrate mkv rips (even with no cache it stays at 99%)
Is there a way to identify if it's network related?

Strange Indeed. Even the 100Mb/s Jellyfish test files I've run have never had this issue.
mpeg2 Tv Streams over an Ethernet connection also go down to VQ 0-4% but do not present buffering issues or stop.
Does the same issue occur with SMB ?

This VQ% could possibly be a red herring and leading you astray.

Having the issue with playing Bluray file structure - Kodi just cannot play index.bdmv file. Any ideas on the reason why?

Cheers.
No idea really. I never use it. I've just packaged all the BD stuff that was included in OpenELEC 5.95.x
This would be a Kodi forums question, in the Linux sub-section.
You would need to provide a debug log over there to if you want any attention help.

In forums (not Kodi but OSMC that is Kodi-based Linux distr) just found such stuff
I'm trying this out on a raspberry pi 2 and everything seems to work well except I'm unable to view movies that are straight rips of bluray disks. This works on my windows based kodi system. The log shows that the system is going to open the /BDMV/index.bdmv but it fails saying:

Unable to load libbluray.so.1, reason: libbluray.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

both are there so I'm not sure what is wrong.

This is a fresh install of OSMC (as of 2/20/2015)
Have you installed the bluray library?

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libbluray1
May be that's the reason. But sure, I need to produce debug log for further investigation.

I've just had a look at the sources for this libbluray package:
http://git.videolan.org/?p=libbluray.git

I suspect the hpi1 version needs to be used ie. v0.9.0
Currently using v0.8.1.

I will do a quick recompile and throw up a test version.

@wrxtasy
Awesome work!
Still waiting on my C1+, but can't wait to try all of this.

Btw I did some network tests on my raspberry pi 2 some time ago and got to talk to Sam Nazarko.
He "fixed" a couple of wireless drivers for OSMC but I saw some improvement with ethernet too.
If you get a chance you might want to try and talk with him about those improvements, I don't think they can be found either in Openelec or on Github (I might be wrong about github).

FURTHER UPDATE

If it helps, I interrogated both versions I am using with the ir-keytable command. The differences are below:

OpenELEC 5.95.6.2 - Kodi Isengard 15.2 Final aka the VFQ edition (doesn't work)

Thanks a lot wrxtasy, that worked !!

As I didn't want my DTS/DD videos to be downsampled at playback, I put

Code: Select all

rate 48000
in the asound file, and let System / Audio output / Limit sampling rate at 48.0.

So far It works well that way (tested on your 15.2 final 5.95.6.2 SD image build)

Edit: Don't know if it's related to this tweak, but with this version, some files with DTS sound have some drops in the sound quite often (not present on 5.95.5.0), I'll try to gather more info.
Edit 2: DTS passthrough drops are present on 5.95.5.0, but far less frequently : maybe 4 or 5 time during the course of a movie, instead of every 4-10 minutes with 5.95.6.2

Yes I think you might be right about the vq% being a red herring. I cannot noticeably see frame skips even though it suggests it is happening.

The issue with with the "forward: 25mb B 100%" dropping to 0s and playback stopping with the m2ts sample is real for me though.
I'll have a look for the 100mb jellyfish sample tonight and give that a try.
I'm pretty sure I see both orange and green activity lights on the nic and I'm sure I saw something confirming gigabit link in ifconfig.
Hopefully it's just an issue with m2ts playback

I noticed this on my C1+ too.

Especially with live tv streams i see a lot of skips.
When i open the codec infoscreen the skips are going really fast up.

But on tv i don't see any skips or drops but only when i get the osd or the codec info screen.

I think the issue is itself with the overlays.
Here is my testing.
Using the Jellyfish 100Mb/s sample.

>start video playback
>bring up codecinfo
forward: 25mB 100% quickly drops to 0 and playback stops to buffer. this will do this about 4-5 times in the quick 30 second sample

>start video playback
wait a few secs for buffers to fill
>bring up codec info
forward: 25mB 100% starts dropping
>remove the codecinfo overlay
>bring it back after a couple of seconds
notice the forward cache has managed to buffer back up to 25MB
however as soon as the codecinfo overlay is there it will begin to fall.
you can keep repeating this. When there is no codecinfo screen up, the buffer stays at full and playback is not interrupted at all.

This issue also occurs when bringing up the OSD menu, however it doesnt occur when leaving the video playing in the background and going back to the main menu.

Guess I've noticed this because I watch a fair bit of anime where as soon as playback starts I go into the audio settings to enable subtitles. Noticed the buffering then went to codec info to see what was happening. Both cause the issues I was trying to identify
