I have another question, in the list of software, I saw that there Retroarch: D
Can you tell me if all the cores are present: FBA, Mame etc ...

It's the full version, just visit their home page to learn more (http://www.libretro.com), or check out this article: http://lifehacker.com/5988944/retroarch ... on-android for a list of supported cores.

Do you think the ODROID C1 is it low to operate heavy arcade games: NEOGEO, CPS3, IGS, PSX, Nintendo 64 emulator with Retroarch.

You will have to do some testing with your own ROMs to know for sure. I prefer the N64 emulator, and have played Super Smash Bros successfully with it.

A person at home HArdkernel made a video with Tekken 6 that works well with the PPSSPP emulator, I have a little hard to believe that this little card is so powerful.

I doubt that anyone at Hardkernel would fake the video ;) This thread discusses the optimal settings for PPSSPP: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=3159

Would it be possible to have a distribution of your demo video to see boot time etc ...

On youtube I have not found a video, it's a shame.

Sorry, I don't have time to do that. The boot time with the red eMMC is around 15-20 seconds.

One last thing, I saw that there is an IR port on ODROID C1, is what the current remote microsoft works with Kodi or OpenELEC (Raspberry PI B +) will work with C1 ODROID or you need to install the drivers?

Please create a separate thread for this question, as I have not had any experience in using the IR capabilities of the C1 yet.

I didn't add a shortcut to it to the home screen, but after pressing the 6-dot Apps button on the desktop, the ODROID Updater is listed alphabetically in the master list of applications. You may need to swipe to the right in the Apps list in order to see it, depending on your screen resolution.

BTW, I am certainly open to including a link to a Youtube video in the original post, in the case that you (or anyone else) would like to create one that showcases Pocket Rocket's features and boot sequence.

I flashed it on a 64 GB Micro SD card...everything worked perfectly. When I turn it on, the tv screen is flashing. Did I do something wrong or has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

Have you given Kodi SuperUser permissions using SuperSU?

Yes...it was the tv that I was trying it on at work. I put it on my tv at home, and no flickering. Maybe the refresh rate of the tv. Thanks...highly recommended install.

Try reflashing the image. Both keyboards are working on the master copy.

You will need to work with the Hardkernel developers on addressing your issue with screen resolution. I base the Pocket Rocket distribution directly on the official version, so if something isn't working on the original release, it won't be working in Pocket Rocket either. I don't do any custom programming or bug fixing apart from installing the latest kernel and system updates.

Hardkernel just recently released v1.2.1 of Android for the ODROID-C1, you may want to test your display with the newest version to see if there has been any progress made.

Ok, now with a second try it worked, but after some seconds the LAN port "died". This LAN issue always happens if I have some data flowing (like updating PLAY) and the port simply doesn't anymore transfer data. I don't have this with Ubuntu. The port still blinks, but disabling/enabling LAN doesn't change it. Neither helps airplane mode or unplugging and replugging the lan cable. Only a reboot helps.
I've also got the Bluetooth dongle for my keyboard/mouse connected. This works all the time.
[edit]
When I check dmesg in Terminal I see a lot of the following message:
Code: Select all
NET skb pointer error!!!

Are you having the same issue when you use the v1.2.1 official Hardkernel release? You will need to install the Gapps installer before testing with the Play store, which is included in the Epic Loot software collection.

I can confirm trying to download anything, if it's through a browser or Google play, it locks up after about 15% downloaded, or the ethernet cable just stops giving me Internet. Unfortunately i don't have the appropriate micro sd usb card reader to install official images, i only have an adapter in a regular sd slot. I can boot your image fine, but it just seems pretty buggy. It's a shame i can't get emulation station, Retroarch, and Netflix running easily on lubuntu, or id use it in a heartbeat. I do like the idea of playing my Google play games though, but i can't get downloading to work proper, and even if i manage to get the apk installed, games that require additional data don't seem to connect.

You should be able to install the official image using the adapter that you have, just copy the .img file to your SD card the same way that you installed Pocket Rocket, unless I'm not understanding something in your post.

Please open up a new thread so that the Hardkernel developers can assist you with the Ethernet lockup issue. As previously mentioned, Pocket Rocket is simply the official release with lots of useful apps installed, so any bugs that are present in the original image will carry over to this distribution as well.

There's a note in the install instructions for the official images stating that many sd to micro sd adapters won't work. I haven't had any luck. When i try through win 32 disk imager it doesn't actually create a file system or partition like your image does. I have no idea what is different, but something has to be.

You're most likely not seeing any partitions because Windows doesn't recognize the ext4 file system. The main difference is that my image is the result of running the installer, which creates the partitions and installs the Android file system, whereas the official image is a compressed version that unpacks itself on first boot.

Have you tried just plugging in the microSD card and booting from it after flashing it with the official image?

Edit: I did what you said and just stuck it in there. Everything booted fine, and downloads are working. I guess i was screwing something up when resizing the partition in gparted in ubuntu. Followed your directions resizing ext3 and ext4, and deleting the fat 32 partition to make a new big one and moved the backups back to that partition, but what i had left in partitions didn't match what you had in pictures. You had a 1gb & 2gb partition in addition to the new fat 32 partition, and mine was 1 and 1.1. Either way I'm happy now, but do i need to try and make my partition for android one large space, or can i use the separate space on its own for Google apps and emulation without issue?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will try this out in a bit. I guess I made an assumption because I had a failed install of the 1.2.0 build and haven't tried any others yet. I will get 1.2.1 flashed and try it out. The info I saw that made me think I had a failed flash was this image http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/lib/exe/detail.php?id=en%3Aodroid_flashing_tools&media=en:s_oem-micro-sd-card-micro-001-.jpg from this page http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:odroid_flashing_tools

Hardkernel has improved the partition management in its most recent Android images, so you can actually move the smaller ext* partitions next to each other, create one large FAT32 partition anywhere on the drive after backing up the existing FAT32 partition files, then recopy the files back to the new FAT32 partition. The FAT32 partition used to need to be near the beginning of the drive in order for the boot.ini file to be recognized, but this is no longer necessary.

Ok, now with a second try it worked, but after some seconds the LAN port "died". This LAN issue always happens if I have some data flowing (like updating PLAY) and the port simply doesn't anymore transfer data.

I can confirm trying to download anything, if it's through a browser or Google play, it locks up after about 15% downloaded, or the ethernet cable just stops giving me Internet.

I just tested downloading several large files on the C1 using Pocket Rocket, and noticed that, if I don't resize the FAT32 partition before first boot, the C1 can easily run out of disk space. So the LAN issue may actually be related to having only 2GB on the partition, with most of it being used already.

Please try using Gparted to resize the FAT32 partition and see if that improves your download experience.

That was actually the first thing I did, even before I booted it for the first time. It's a 16 GB card and the issue happens even after a few MB of data. Once it happens, network (on LAN) is completely dead, not even a Ping is working anymore.

Same here, 16gb micro sd, resized partition before first boot. Actually i left all partitions alone and just deleted the fat 32 one and made a new one with all the unused space.

I just found the official 1.3 image (released today) in an other thread. I've flashed that one and now networking works. I did not resize the sd card yet.

I am having the same issue reported by patoberli.

I have a 16 MB SD card as well on your latest Android build release (KitKat-4.4.2_PocketRocket-C1-HDMI.20150320).

The partition was originally not resized when I started to have the networking issue so i resized it however that did not resolve the issue.

Is there any information you would like me to provide in order to trouble shoot this better?

Thanks.

What I ended up doing was using the official image, then used robroy's list to add a good bit of the apps on to my system. Maybe it is a problem with the specific 16mb sd card when this image with a certain combo of software is copied to it, since nobody else seems to be having the issue. I did not put all the software back in, but maybe if I did I could replicate the issue? Or maybe it is specific to loading the image onto the card with the software in the image. Who knows.

Also the person asking about if the C1 was capable of running roms well...I have been able to play the games Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Grind Radio at full speed on the Dreamcast emmulator Reicast once I found a working Bios. PSP games run great on PPSSPP emulator if you can tweak the settings enough for each game to optimize performance. PSx emulation is pretty much at 100% with the right Bios. N64 emulation runs ok with Mupen64 stand-alone, but there are 2d sprite issues with flashing/disappearing. The one included with RetroArch would not start any N64 roms unfortunately. All generations of consoles before those work flawlessly in my experience. Hope this helps!

That's actually how I make the Pocket Rocket image, so it's surprising that the official one would operate differently from the version that I publish. I don't make any changes other than installing Google Play Store and some useful apps, then resizing the FAT32 partition for compactness and using "dd" to copy the image.

Is there any information you would like me to provide in order to trouble shoot this better?

You may also want to try the official Android image and do what @jasonell did, to see if you still have networking issues there. If so, you can create a new thread in the Android C1 sub-forum and let the Hardkernel developers know what you have found. However, @patoberli mentioned that, for him, this release of Pocket Rocket no longer has the LAN networking issue. I can't actually recreate it myself.

If you'd like to write some game reviews for ODROID Magazine, along with some tips on how to optimize PPSSPP for certain games, please send me a PM and I'll let you know the specifics.

I would, but I really don't get much time to test out the collection I have very extensively. My process basically is to try a game I like from a random system, and if it performs horribly, I look for a config setup on youtube or google. I use lists like this: http://wiki.reicast.com/index.php/Reicast_Compatibility_List?wap2 to see if I should even bother trying first, and go from there.

I think you mentioned emulating N64 in your image. Have you had better luck than me with the flashing 2d sprites, or using retroarch for N64 instead of the standalone install of mupen64?

Some games work better than others. I have used both Retroarch and Mupen64plus, and both seem to perform about the same, and are the two best N64 emulators that I have tested so far. I haven't taken the time to post any error reports for the M64 developers, but am hoping that the glitches will improve in future releases. I suspect that some N64 games used graphical shortcuts which were not anticipated by the Mupen64plus team.

I actually did not test it with PR, but with the new official release. In that, and also the older 1.3 official release (not PR again), I didn't anymore have networking issues.
Haven't tried PR since then, not sure if it's the double superuser or maybe it needs a dalvik cache clean (like on Android phones when installing a new rom)?

I actually clear out the dalvik-cache directory before copying the image, mostly to reduce the size of the compressed file. There really shouldn't be any differences between how the official image behaves and this distribution. I just install the apps and copy it, and don't make any changes to the system files.

The only "aborted download" behavior thar I ever noticed was when I ran out of disk space on the FAT32 partition due to not resizing it. As noted in the original post, it is best to backup the files on the FAT32 partition, delete the partition and recreate it using GParted, then copy the files back.

Having a problem with the download from the first page.
BlueTooth audio is not working. It is working on the latest Hardkernel Android version.

I'm not sure why that is happening, as the image is directly based on v1.3. As I mentioned above:

You can always use the Epic Loot Software Collection to recreate Pocket Rocket using the official Hardkernel image, as mentioned in the original post. I just redid the image based on v1.3, so my next release will be shortly after v1.4 is published, which hopefully should resolve these small discrepancies.

Hi , i followed the link to Epic Loot Collection, and downloaded a zip file which has only 5 apps there. But you had much bigger list in the pocket
rocket rom, the zip file did not have SuperSU , no busy box and many other are missing. Would you update that post to reflect what's in the rom?

Thank you
