[SOLVED] Help with running linux command on android (usb

Unread post by Shrapnel09 » Sun Jul 31, 2016 11:59 pm

Hello!

I'm in need to getting my genesis controller usb adapter to work. Apparently there is a known issue that the adapter does not send the UP and LEFT commands on linux based machines (as well as android as I found out). However there appears to be a simple fix for this for several variations of Linux but doesn't specifically mention how to apply said fix for android. Unfortunately I'm a complete noob at this sort of thing so I was hoping someone would be so kind as to provide me with some tips and tricks :)

the Linux fix: https://github.com/retuxx/hid-retrobit/ ... /README.md

the adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Genesis ... geNumber=5

thank you all! :)

I think you need to make your custom kernel and implement the 'alternate solution'. Or ask HK, if they change it for the next release. If you prefer the custom kernel, refer to the wiki:http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... ing_kernel

Hmm I understand, is there an official spot where I can make such requests to HK to apply this fix for the next release? This would mean a great deal to me and would immensely appreciate it!

Thanks!

The official would be a pull request on their kernel github, but I never made and can't assist here. Here in forum some guys active who can explain this.
And the admin odroid normaly reading here and answering. You can ask him here in forum.

Thanks joerg, I'll go ahead and send Mr. Odroid a pm and hopefully they could squeeze something like this in the next release!

Should we update file /drivers/hid/hid-input.c as described in this link (Alternate solution part)?
https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/blo ... ut.c#L1055
https://github.com/retuxx/hid-retrobit/ ... /README.md

Because there are tons of input devices are using the hid-input driver, we may meet a lot of negative side effects.

Thanks for the reply odroid...Not sure if your response was intended for me or another mod though. Either way you guys would definitely know best in terms of which approach to take. If it helps I have 10+ different controllers/adapters (and access to large array if diff models of keyboards and mice) and would happily text extensively if you would be so kind to have some sort of test release with that driver update. Seriously I'll do whatever you ask, I love the odroid and would like to help the development process anyway I can. Thank you!

Okay. We will try to test the patch with our HID devices first.
If there is no issue, we will release a update.

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to do this! This means so much to me and if it works out my 2+ year long Retro-Experience project will finally be complete!

If you cannot seem to get it to work please let me know, if I must I will try to find another adapter that hopefully does not have such restrictions.

Again, thank you, thank you! :D

Try this V1.1 image. We've patched the HID driver as your link.
