dmesg prints video decoder debug info

Post by extphy »

Hi All,

Is there any userspace trick to disable output from HW video decoder to dmesg:

Code: Select all

Can you try this?
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ ... asics.html
Tried to set current to 1:

Code: Select all

root@prod:/# cat /proc/sys/kernel/printk
4	4	1	7

root@prod:/# echo 1 >  /proc/sys/kernel/printk

root@prod:/# cat /proc/sys/kernel/printk
1	4	1	7

dmesg still prints output from video decoder

Looks like the logs will be printed unless the kernel is changed since all messages are printed with printk only.

EDIT:
Are you able to build and install Linux kernel by yourself?

@tobetter, thank you, I'll try on new builds (e.g. buildroot C4)

Wait, is the log from C1 or C4?

This is C1, but I plan to move to C4 soon, so if it would work for C4 build it's fine for me

Just for record: C2 buildroot build
Linux odroidc2 3.14.79 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue May 25 11:38:25 MSK 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux

has the same issue -- i.e. video decoder spams into kmsg:

Code: Select all

[ 3960.563687] codec:vdec1 video changed to 1920 x 1080 24 fps clk->166MHZ
[ 3960.563710] codec:frame_mbs_only_flag 1, crop_bottom 4,  frame_height 1080,
[ 3960.563715] codec:mb_height 68,crop_right 0, frame_width 1920, mb_width 68
[ 3960.653580] switch_vpu_mem_pd: di_pre ON
[ 3960.663585] pre_de_buf_config: source change: 0x0/0/0/0=>0x9000/1920/1080/0
[ 3960.678938] codec:video first pts = e11
[ 3960.678962] switch_vpu_mem_pd: viu_vd1 ON
[ 3960.678966] switch_vpu_mem_pd: afbc_dec ON
[ 3960.678970] switch_vpu_mem_pd: di_post ON
[ 3960.745608] recycle_keep_buffer recycle keep cur di_buf 15 (
[ 3960.745615]  2  3
[ 3960.745621] )
[ 3963.716216] tv_vout: vout [tv_set_vframe_rate_end_hint] return mode = 12, policy = 1!
[ 3963.723503] codec:keep exit is di
[ 3963.723514] codec:video first pts = 0
[ 3963.723529] di_uninit_buf keep cur di_buf 11 (0 1 -1)
[ 3963.723539] switch_vpu_mem_pd: di_pre OFF
[ 3963.726374] codec:vdec_clock_set-----0
[ 3963.726382] codec:vdec1 video changed to 0 x 0 0 fps clk->166MHZ
although:

Code: Select all

$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/printk
0	4	1	7
probably decoder drivers don't honour levels at all?
