I am back on the armhf image again, after your sugestion. I will try the armel image another time ... it brought up lxde ok.
Regarding the armhf image, I am in a Mate desktop with chromium as suggested, but nothing is accelerated by default, unlike your full games image, which worked out of the box.
What parameters do I pass to chromium to turn on all the accel .....

EDIT: I see mesa libs is being used instead of mali, how do I kill it ....

Cheers

did you use the tiezen 4.0 kernel or backport the tizen required bits in 3.10?
any success with anything other than weston?

I think I created that image for you for testing :D
You were looking into tizen and had issues with soft-float drivers, so I told you I'm gonna make a armel image for you. I told you in another thread that it's done viewtopic.php?p=126067#p126067 ;)

That's a funny question, since the entire Topic is exactly about that :D

I'm currently using: --use-gl=egl --ignore-gpu-blacklist --disable-accelerated-2d-canvas --num-raster-threads=4 --audio-buffer-size=4096 as default flags. But there are a lot of discussions what else to use.

Re: How to enable Chromium browser GPU hardware accelerate.

Can someone give a look at these two chrome:\\gpu readouts and tell me what's causing the "electron" one not to use the mali drivers?

They're both running on the same xu3. I notice the chromium version difference but from what's reported on this thread (that it worked as early as chromium 45.0) that shouldn't matter. All input will be appreciated.

See copied text below (tried attaching original html files but not permitted :( ).
Thanks,
Salm

Here is the way.
1. Run chromium.
2. Enter about:flags as URL.
3. Disable Override software rendering list (1st one).
4. Close the browser.
5. Run the chromium with "chromium-browser --use-gl=egl"
6. Enter about:gpu as URL

You can see it is full hardware accelerated :) You can feel it now!

Tried this, and it still seems to work in 2017

WebGL seems to be working.
Code: Select all
WebGL: Hardware accelerated
WebGL2: Hardware accelerated

Try to visit this site.
http://carvisualizer.plus360degrees.com/threejs/

Note that 2D acceleration doesn't work with OpenGL-ES.

you should check the links under /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/lib*GL*.
In some of the Ubuntu images libEGL and libGLESv2 were linked against MESA instead of Mali GPU drivers, which would cause issues.

Thank you for the feedback!
The site runs extremely slow. I think that Chromium is using MESA and not Mali:
Code: Select all
GL_VENDOR   Google Inc.
GL_RENDERER   ANGLE (VMware, Inc. Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 4.0, 128 bits) OpenGL 3.3 core)
GL_VERSION   OpenGL ES 3.0 (ANGLE 2.1.0.unknown hash)

When I run glmark2-es2 I see the following:
Code: Select all
    GL_VENDOR:     ARM
    GL_RENDERER:   Mali-400 MP
    GL_VERSION:    OpenGL ES 2.0
And in that case it runs very well.

Unfortunately, I am not really sure how to check the links according to Meveric's post.

can you post the output of:

that looks fine so far.
What happens if you start chromium from terminal:
Code: Select all
chromium --use-gl=egl

Do you see any complains about drivers?

Yes - there is a message about driver loading problem. I've posted in in my first message.
Here it is again:

ah yes just found it again, that's why I was checking on Mali drivers..
Can you check ls -l /usr/lib/chromium not sure, could be that it's /usr/lib/chromium-browser for you, as you're using Ubuntu.

I have the same issue on my XU4 Ubuntu too. :(
My Chromium version is 62.0.3202.75 and it always using the soft-GL.
es2gears and glmark2-es2 are using Mali well though.

Please help us to find what's wrong in Ubuntu 16.04 images.

Should we make link files against libEGL.so and libGLESv2.so ?

Ah..
This commands solved the issue. I have no idea when Canonical Chromium package started including the weird GLES libs.
Code: Select all
sudo mv /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so.org
sudo mv /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so.org
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/mali-egl/libmali.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/mali-egl/libmali.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so

yep yep that is what I was pointing at.. had to do the same under Debian Stretch for ODROID C2 but strangely not under Debian Stretch on my XU4 so I was wondering if it was a one time issue.

I can confirm that this solution solves the problem. Only the paths are a little bit different on my build:

Code: Select all
sudo mv /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so.org
sudo mv /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so.org
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libМali.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libEGL.so
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libМali.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libGLESv2.so

Thank you for the support! You're great! :)

Good to hear you solved the issue too.

Today, Canonical/Google releases a newer Chromium 62.0.3202.89 now.
Let's check whether our workaround is still ok or not after updating.

Edit: The update breaks the soft-link solution. :(
I have to create two soft-links again.
