Use overlayroot with odroid C1+ Ubuntu 14.04

Unread postby lderache » Sun Jan 08, 2017 7:04 pm

I am trying to use overlayroot with my odroid C1+ under ubuntu.

However the last kernel for C1 is 3.10.96-151 and overlayfs driver is available only from kernel 3.18.

So after installation of the package overlayroot, there is not difference and my root filesystem is still RW.

What is the best option to run a newer kernel and have overlayroot work?

Thanks.

We discontinued the kernel update on 14.04 around 10 months ago.
Consider using the 16.04.

BTW, we already enabled the overlayfs driver option in kernel configuration as a builti-n driver.

Yes thanks I saw the module is activated but for some reason I do not see the driver overlayfs.ko in the kernel drivers.

I guess it is because the kernel does not contain that in version 3.10. Maybe the only way is to patch the kernel.

If someone has been able to get it working I would be happy to know how.

By the way I pulled a fresh ubuntu minimal image 16.04 LTS and did upgrade all packages.

The last kernel available is

Linux odroid 3.10.104-181 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 23 13:18:53 UTC 2016 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

Overlayroot does not work also on this version.

When the kernel will be upgraded on this image?

Thank you.

I tried to use overlayroot on the latest 16.04.02 image on the C1 and I can't get it to work. Kernel 3.10.104-189

I know very little about Linux Kernels so currently just going around in circles. I'm assuming I need the overlayfs.ko driver as it's not there.

How would I install that?

Any advice appreciated.

We don't know how to use the overlayfs.
As far as I know, the Volumio OS is using the overlay for C1+/C2.
So you might need to check how Volumio developers utilize it.

Thanks for that. They seem to be doing something custom which most likely won't help.
