ODROID C1 issues

Hi developers, hi customers!
I've bought C1 and comapred it with rasp PI.
Rasp is my home media center = openelec XBMC, live IPTV streaming and video playback.
Ondoir C1 compare to rasp is much more faster and performs good on HD IPTV, where rasp fails.
But C1 has 2 issues, which prevent it usage (rasp replacement) as a media center:
1. no remote controlling. HDMI CEC or generic IR port. I was unable to configure it. Rasp performing greate with CEC. It is preferred option.
2. rebooting issue. No way to reboot system succesfully. It hangs after reset. Only manual power cable unplugging works.

Dear developers, please fix it and I will gladly replcae my rasp with ODROID C1.

What is your use case of reboot? It would be great to know the detail to fix.

I just typing "rebbot" from console or from ubuntu GUI.
Seems like device going to reboot,
but screen is black and ssh doen't connect anymore.
I'v waited for a few minutes.

How is the status of blue LED? What's your vendor and model of your MicroSD?

After power on red LED is always on.
Blue LED is on after power on,
then it blinks few times (2-4). then again just on until ubuntu is loaded.
When ubuntu desktop loaded blue LED goes off.
After reboot command screen goes black, red LED on, blue on. Nothing happens for a long time. I waited 5 minutes, then just power off device.
Terminal doesn't connect after reboot.

My SD: transcend 16gb SD HC I 10 mmctr16guacj-ac

Hi Kinguru2,
Could you check if your MicroSD is listed on "Slow Start Up Memory Card"?

We have an issue with some vendor's MicroSD which does not start immediately, and trying to resolve it. Have you experienced blue LED is turned on after 20-40 seconds or more since AC adaptor is attached?

Hi Tobetter, there is no my card in slow list. My is uhs-I.
Time passed between power on and Ubuntu desktop equals 22 seconds.
Blue led is turned on after 2 seconds of power on. When OS appears on screen, blue led turns off forever.
Blur led is active only in boot period.

If you do not have a problem to have Ubuntu after 22 seconds after power on 100%, your card is fine. Can you check if your problem is similar with this?

Seems like same "re-mounted" issue.

I'v updated kernel using odroid-utility to 3.10.43 version and haliluya! Heartbeat blue led blinks as described in manual.
But reboot still hangs and same error messages in kern.log.

Yes. Below you will find kern.log. But date/time in log looks strange. Before I reboot I sync date/time to ukraine/kiev time zone +2. And then reboot device.
But in log I see only 1 jan and 29 dec. May be log wasn't saved while rebooting?
Now blue LED behavior after reboot is:
- blink heartbeat
- just turned on 2-3 seconds
- blink heartbeat forever (i waited 5 minutes but can't connect via SSH and black screen).

Based on your kernel log, it seems ok. Why do you think your C1 have reboot problem and hangs after reboot? Ubuntu does not come up to your display/monitor?

After reboot screen is black. Ssh does not connect.
I think this kern.log is after I power off/on device. And reboot kern.log doesn't saves at all.
Am I right?

I think it might be contain the kernel log while rebooting, if you copy the log file when your C1 is rebooted. Are you able to have a shell prompt via serial console even after rebooting?

I do not have serial console.
If it is reboot log, why date and time is wrong? Is reboot procedure reset clock?

At the moment, I am not sure 100% its saved log after reboot since I do not know where your C1 is stuck. At least, if your C1 boots properly by reboot command but screen does come up, then the kernel log is saved. What is the blue led status? Blinking or Solid on?

Not only screen, but ssh too doesn't respond. After reboot
Blue led is heart beating. It's strange.
Is there another way to see log sequence during boot?

We can test log writing by manually write something in log and then just power off. What you think about it?
Same situation with reboot.

If you have heartbeat on blue led, I completely sure that the Kernel is booted well. If you have serial console, then you will agree with me.
Did you resize the partition after flash the image to your MicroSD by Odroid-Utility?
And your C1 does not have any problem even now if you boot the board after insert AC plug?
Could you make a tarball /var/log after C1 is restarted with "reboot"? Please keep the board just couple of minutes after heartbeat of blue led is started.

It was clean installation. SD card was fully cleaned and imaged with ubuntu 14.04.
At first boot partition was resized.
At second boot kernel was updated.
At the 3rd boot blue LED was just on after reboot (manually powered off after few minutes).
On the all next boots 4, 5, 6, 7 and next, blue LED is blinking (heartbeat) after reboot and SSH and display were dead.

If I remove AC plug and insert again - device boots OK in 20-22 seconds. Stable.
I will make tarball in 6-8 hours, i'm at work now.

On stock image, blue LED had a problem and fixed in latest kernel. So as you update the kernel on 2nd boot, it would be always heartbeating after kernel update on your C1. I am pretty sure that only Linux kernel make blue LED do heartbeating.

I prepared log.tar.gz.
Preparation was:
1. i delete all files in /var/log
2. reboot device
3. wait 10 minutes (no luck)
4. power off/ power on
5. tar + gz all log files

http://www.filedropper.com/logtar

As you can see, there is only one boot log sequence in kernel.log.
But must be 2. First after reboot and second after power on.

The logs you posted...

Shows a complete boot with even Xorg started...

Even that you had no video you should be able to ping the board.

I agree with you, kern.log should contains the log for twice boot. It's little bit hard since we are not able too read kernel log when the device is stuck. Your C1 seems to be stuck on the Kernel since blue LED is blinking. Can you try this?
1. Flash your MicroSD with Ubuntu image.
2. Reattach your MicroSD to mount BOOT partition on your desktop.
3. Download BOOT.tar.gz

4. Extract BOOT.tar.gz into BOOT partition
5. Remove your MicroSD safely
6. Attach to your C1 and boot.
7. Open "Odroid-Utility" to resize the partition (optional), but do not try kernel/firmware update.
8. Do "shutdown -r now" as usually you did

Hi,
I just got my odroid-C1 today, and I have the same issues described in this thread,
Fresh downloaded image, flashed to a Samsung UHC-1 16GB SD ( on your fast list ).
First boot I expanded drive, second was kernel update.
After each reboot I have waited a few minutes, nothing happened so pulled the power cable out to power off and on.

Yes, the similar issue is happening some model of Samsung's MicroSD and trying to fix it. So please try another card, strongly recommend SanDisk MicroSD.
But so far no luck to reproduce it on my hand with couple of Samsung MicroSD. Could you tell me the model and capacity of your MicroSD? And if possible with the photo of your card?

By the way, my transcend 16gb SD HC I 10 mmctr16guacj-ac. But if you enter "mmctr16guacj-ac" in google you will find several samsung SDs. Seems like transcend is only rebranding in my case.

I'v flashed stock ubuntu 14.04 end then replaced uImage with yours from DropBox. Device does not boot. Blue and red LEDs on. No ping, no ssh.

It's odd, I thought your MicroSD does not have any problem to boot. Only the problem was reboot, your C1 must boot at lease once with my Linux kernel. Could you check if your C1 also can work with this experience? http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=7913

I have the same issue with the reboots. Unplugging the power cable and reconnecting boots fine! BTW I have the Samsung 16GB EVO.

is the failure to reboot...........because of the type of micro sd being used?

Have you flashed Ubuntu v1.1 on your MicroSD and checked if "disableuhs" is enabled in your boot.ini?
What's your exact problem? Not able to boot or failure on rebooting?

Yes this is my microSD card. I only have a problem on reboots. It will just not come back up. I have to unplug the power.

This is most painful MicroSD in card box. Hard to boot and many errors.
If you are able to boot without a failure on power cycle, then I would say you are very lucky. But we are trying to find a workaround. :(

I tried another class 10 card from a generic manufacturer and that behaves the same way.... Here is the dmesg output when that card is inserted on another linux machine.
usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci

Same problem, after reboot only see blank screen with hardkernel logo (ANDROID last official version). My sd card is this http://www.samsung.com/my/consumer/memo ... -MP16D/APC

Looks like they fixed their issue by changing SD cards. So I will try another one next chance I get.
This is why threads should be merged, the developers can focus on supporting many users with the same issue instead of each user one by one.

Have news.
Firstly, I just take my current SD card with updated kernel and overwrite all files on boot partition as you described.
After it I booted and then shutdown -r now. In display little white square in the top left corner.
And nothing happens - no ssh, no ping, no ubuntu.
Blue LED blinking all the time.

Next step I erased all by flashing yours ubuntu 14.04 image and then overwrite boot files.
On first boot little white square in the top left corner and all. No ssh, no ping, no ubuntu.
I will try once more with full flashing.
