CPU running hot

Post by r11bordo »

Hi,

the Dietpi cpu command shows a temperature at 75°C (23°C in my room).
I have reduced the CPU from 1500Mhz to 1200Mhz for the moment.
Is-it normal ?

Thanks

It depends on what you're doing. An idle xu4 with performance governor is about 65C. Switch to ondemand and you get about 55C.

Just thought the same, but this is the C1 section... C1 at 75°C is rather high (unless under full load) even if it's not critical.

The C1 has a smaller heatsink than c2 and runs hotter. My C1 with a case idles at about 60C. I usually limit the frequency to 800MHz and get it to 55C.

All the cases from hardkernel (except the really old ones for the U3 and XU3) are really terrible when it comes to heat.
Especially if you use a passive cooled system such as the C1 or C2. The heat get stuck inside the case and the board heats up more and more. The few breakouts in the case are not enough to transport the heat, as no fresh air comes in and the warm air only slowly seeps out through the breakouts these cases are terrible when it comes to heat management.

I'm pretty sure the C1+ and the C2 have the same heatsink.

Originally no. The C2 has a wider black heatsink, the C1 had a narrower silver heatsink. When I put the blue (modified) heatsink on my C2 I moved the C2's heatsink on the C1. Not sure if newer versions come with the black heatsink.

I have an original C1, I guess it may be more narrow but I would have to look.

You use the barrel DC jack on C1+, remove the J8 jumper.
It will reduce the heat around 5~7°C probably.
