Kiosk - Browser Only Distro?

Unread post by shieldsit » Thu Mar 22, 2018 9:33 pm

Is there a distro or an easy way to have a super small & fast browser only setup for the C1/+? I have about 30 that are digital signs and they only need to use a browser. I have upgraded some of them to 16.04 and they keep locking up or crashing so I'm wondering if there is a better way I can do it.

Did you use Chromium Kiosk mode on Ubuntu 16.04?
Did you check RAM memory usage?

If we change this Kernel parameter in the boot.ini file, you can have additional ~110MB system RAM. ... ot.ini#L67

Code: Select all

# Disable VPU (Video decoding engine, Saves RAM!!!)
# 0 = disabled
# 1 = enabled
setenv vpu "1"

I haven't tried this but I would think you could use buildroot and the NetSurf browser which works in a framebuffer.

Doesn't get any more minimal.

Personally I would use Android and something like this: ... erov.fully
