Odroid C1+ as router/firewall

Unread postby mika91 » Fri Sep 29, 2017 6:03 pm

Hi,

I want to replace my ISP router with my Odroid C1+.
I ordered an USB 3.0 to Gigabit ehternet adapter, but distributions such as Iptable, zeroshell, OpenWRT or pfSense are not available for the C1+
So I guess I'll have to install Unubut or Debian, then manually edit conf files to configure NAT/DHCP/Firewall.
I'm not a netowrk expert, so a GUI would be nice.

Do you have any recommandations ?
Ubuntu vs Debian? (or another dedicated distribution)
GUI to configure network stuffs?
Using a rpi 1b is maybe a better choice ? (I know about bandwidth limitations, but my DSL connection is very slow (4mb/s) so it should be ok)

Thanks

PS: I allready have the OC1+ and the rpi, so please don't recommand me to buy the ux ^^

I was thinking of porting openwrt when I run out of projects, but I haven't gotten there yet.
The next best thing would be ubuntu + webmin for a web interface

Hmm, you should be able to create a lxc image of openwrt and run it on your C1. You could use the network interface in bridge mode. Here are some instructions, though you'll need to use armhf instead of x86_64 https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=67358. There's an lxc basic article in Odroid Magazine from ~2 years ago to get you started.
They also have a docker tutorial: https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/docker_openwrt_image
