Is the odroid-c0 powerful enough to run Moonlight streaming?

Unread postby crazyquark » Fri Jan 05, 2018 11:16 pm

Hi,

I am pondering using the odroid-c0 for a portable nvidia streaming client via moonlight and I am wondering if it's doable with this neat little board.

C0 should be able to use hardware decoder for moonlight streaming and with that should be fast enough for any streaming.
It can even stream in H265.

Th Odroid-C0 is theoretically capable of moonlight streaming using hardware decoding up to 1080p@60 using h264 (AVC) or h265 (HAVC). The issue is that it has no Ethernet port exposed. This means you will need to use WiFi over USB2 limiting the available bandwidth for streaming. WiFi will also add random latency and speed drops which may result in stuttering and/or pauses during gameplay.

USB to LAN is probably better than USB to WIFI.
Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue, especially with H265 streaming.

The link speed is directly related to the quality of WiFi adapter being used, the distance from AP, and channel congestion/interference in the area being used.

Just a note that If stuttering/pauses are experienced, its the WiFi and not the C0 being "slow". When I tested on S805, the hardware was not taxed (around 12% CPU usage if I recall correctly). The results are documented somewhere on the forum in my thread about progress on hardware acceleration.
