I will check if your particular device (VID_148F & PID_7601) is part of the driver or if the driver needs to be updated.

--> checked apparently it's part of it:

Code: Select all

        {USB_DEVICE(0x148f,0x7601)}, /* MT 6370 */

Edit:
So here are a couple things to check and that I found:
1. after installation of the DKMS module and the reboot is any device listed if you check ip a? It should show either wlan0 or ra0 or something similar
2. There is a file: /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat where you have to configure the device with your location specific settings.. there are different country codes that it knows which bandwidth to chose and things like that.
3. Can you check with lsmod if mt7601Usta is loaded? If not try modprobe mt7601Usta and check again with ip a if a wlan network adapter is listed or not.
4. also just in case please make sure the following package is installed: apt-get install firmware-misc-nonfree

If nothing works, let me know and I see if I can find a different driver for you :)

Code: Select all

root@gamestation-turbo:/home/odroid# ip a
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default

Hello, meveric. Is your OS still being updated? I decided to repurpose my XU4 but went with Armbian this time. However, I'm having a hard time making the OS run from a hard drive. But for GameStation, I know you made it super easy to work that way. But I'm just concerned if the OS is not being updated anymore. I want to use it for desktop applications, not gaming.

I still do updates for it, but the OS itself (Debian Jessie) is rather aged by now.
To be honest I haven't touched the U2/U3 in quite some time and there are some manual steps that need to be done:
viewtopic.php?p=206490#p206490

You could also try to use my Debian Jessie image instead:
https://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/images/Je ... 5-U.img.xz

It's a server image where you can install the Desktop via setup-odroid so it's without all the gaming stuff.

Still I consider Debian Jessie very aged by now but it's somewhat hard to progress to a different OS (Debian Stretch/Buster) as the "official" Kernel is very outdated and doesn't support these OSes.
There are some OSes available which can use upsteam Kernel but they often lack GPU support. So things like hardware accelerated browsing or 3D applications may not work correctly.

Ah, I see. So in other words, the Odroid device itself is outdated because of its kernel. If that's the case, then there's no use trying other OSs, especially with no hardware accelerated support. I'm going with GameStation again since Kodi is preinstalled already, thanks.

One question first.
Your description says you have an ODROID XU4, but you postet your question on the ODROID U2/U3 Forum.
Which one do you have? As the XU4 is still well supported with Kernel and OSes everywhere.

Shoot! Wrong sub-forum! Yes, I was talking about the XU4! Hmm, but your GameStation Turbo is outdated, right? I was just reading about your Debian Stretch OS just now. It seems you got Kodi working, too! Armbian wouldn't play Kodi videos right. All I need is a browser and Kodi for this 24/7 device. I'm going to try the OS now.
