Odroid-W Future?

Post by mknrls »

Sad to hear that odroid-w will no longer available after the first trial batch is sold out. Is there any thoughts reviving the odroid-w with a different SoC or make a new product similar to this one?

We are considering a new product. But the development needs about 5~6 months.

Nice to hear that there will come a new product, but sad that you have problems with Broadcom. Any further informations on the specs of the new board? Are you now planing with my dream of a dual CSI support? What new SoC will be used or are you planing to use?

We are still thinking about it.. there's too many things that can change it..
Until we have something solid we won't rather not talk about it :(

Hopefully it will have a camera interface that is compatible with the Pi camera (AFAIK nothing stops from a board using the raspicam software to interface with it, it's just an Omnivision sensor, nothing to do with Broadcom), would make image processing a lot faster than with some USB camera..

I also hope for a camera interface as it is important for a product I'd like to migrate to the ODROID platform. It would also be important to keep the end user price as low as possible.

Hi Guys
If you are going to develop somethin , Please, Please include a RPI I/O compatible I/O like the Banana PI and and the Hummingboard
we are developing for this I/O and the BPI and the Hummingboard are good Platforms it would be nice to add a ODROID Platform as well

Sorry to hear that this went in the can because of Broadcom. Nothing worse then spending allot of time and energy on such a great board only to have it killed.
All i can hope for whatever you decide to go with is that you keep the eMMC option.
Good luck in your new design, we are anxiously awaiting the new one.

Oh dear! What a terrible shame that the Odroid-W is no longer available. I just went to buy one and found out i couldnt and then started reading all about it being discontinued. I have been in a state sadness ever since because ive had my eye on the Odroid-W for some time for a personal project of mine that i was intending to bring to Kickstarter. I would be very interested in a SoC with similar properties to the Odroid-W in terms of size, battery power, slimness, processing power etc. In addition, natively supporting 3.5 audio out on the same PCB would be a huge benefit. And natively supporting the PiTFT would also be amazing.

In closing, i loved what you guys had done with the Odroid-W. Please do it again! Or do it better! :D

Do you know guys 'bout a new model a+ from rpi?

It's a bit smaller than a credit card, but still bigger than Odroid-W!

I do. But it has to many issues for me to use.

#1) they only use uSD card. I cannot use this because i have to coat my boards to use in the environment. This is where the ODROID shines by using the eMMC adapter.
#2) they used the standard HDMI connector instead of the mini or micro.
#3) They stuck a USB connector on it. I want the option if i need one to do it. Just route the USB pins to a header.
#4) Drop the sterio jack. route the signals to the header instead.

I agree, other things I didn't like was 256MB instead of 512MB and the lack of the RTC and charging circuit (which is what makes the Odriod W great in my eyes).

As far as I am concerned the only good thing about the A+ is its crazy low price. But then thats the only good thing about the Raspberry Pi in general in my opinion.

I agree! Not to mention you can't find one shred of documentation on the site for it. How could a company sell something and not have the very least a pinout.

I am waiting to see what the Odroid-W replacement will be like, as I think the form factor, and number of exposed I/O's was brilliant.

I ordered a lot of Odroid-W gear back in July ($213+s/h) to review it, and qualify my Raspberry Pi products for the Odroid-W.

I received my Odroid-W's just in time to hear about it being discontinued.

I was not happy because I loved the small form factor, and I was looking forward to reviewing it - however after it was discontinued, there was no point in reviewing it.

Regarding the Raspberry Pi A+ ... it is a nice and useful little board, but significantly larger than an Odroid-W, see my Raspberry Pi Model A+ review at

http://www.mikronauts.com/raspberry-pi-model-a-review/ (there are also RPi B+ and Banana Pi reviews on my site)

Is there going to be a ODRIOD-W2, or did the ODRIOD-C replace the W line?

Yes, I need to know if to stock up on the W's or not. I need composite or VGA video, super small form factor, and battery powered.
If I say something that sounds smart or like i know what i'm talking about....i'm faking it.

From reading about the C1, it sounds like the C1 is the replacement for the W.

I'd be interested in seeing an ODROID-W2 based on the C1, with more I/O brought out.

Mainly I agree, that C1 is more alternative to U3, not W. IMHO W is much more compact size and good to IoT/wearable or something like. We still need W2.

Oh man! I just ordered my Odroid-W today, together with other peripherals like the W Docking Board with TFT LCD etc. That was before I saw this post. If I knew it was discontinued I would not have bothered.

It is a real pity to hear its discontinued. It was such perfect board for my RPi based to speech thingy (Raspivoice) product that I recently brought to the market. I was just contemplating how I'm going to use the board as part of my product.

The C1 looks great, but for my application the analog audio output is very important. As as I understand it, the C1 only supports audio via HDMI right?

I suppose one can at least use one of those USB to audio devices. So its not a train smash.
