VU7C Burn-in display

Post by zyssai »

Hi,

I noticed Burn-in display, I only used this screen between 10h to 20h, while working with new LOS rom, so backlight was at maximum.

I never thought to have this behavior with so few hours of work.

Oh! I can see that Renault logo on the blank screen obviously. :o
The LCD module on the Vu7C seems not to have a reliable anti-burn-in characteristics.

Is there any screen-saver add-on for the Android?
Or, Can you try some anti-burn-in apps? Frankly speaking, I don't trust them though but I found some positive feedback.

I used with VU7+ a video with right resolution that goes over >1h and played it in VLC in full screen mode.
[edit]
In car I use a live wallpaper as home screen background. I have made it by myself to learn about live wallpapers an OpenGL.

It's unbelievable. I will change the wallpaper for something else but I never thought to see this.
VU7A+ is a great quality screen, unfortunately I cannot use it in car dashboard because of HDMI port placement, even with a 90° adapter.
Too bad that VU7C doesn't share the same display, I hope hardkernel will do something to improve this screen.

Since it is intended to be used into a car, it is not planned to have a screen saver.
I will try any of these apps, even if I have no real hope.

I will try this, thanks.

Is there something to do with this, even with Android?

I thought screen burn-in was a thing only for crt type displays...

I totally agree.
I have seen some Samsung smartphones with this problem coming after a year or two, but regarding Odroid, it is an aberation on screens who are made to be powered on 24h a day for some projects.

Maybe it's not permanent? I can't think of a cause for this, other than some inner transparent layer changing its opacity due to light.

Or maybe if you left it displaying all white for 20h, the whole surface would "burn in" and the problem will be gone? Just thinking aloud.

I hope it's not permanent, but 2 days after seeing this, it's always here.
I don't know if I must try all white a day or not, I will wait a little before trying something like this, but, thanks for the tip :!:

Sounds like even better idea, didn't know such treatments actually exist. :)

@zyssai, if you expect to use this display for a few years, you might as well try this. If the burn-in comes back after a few days, that's going to be your screen saver. :D

Would a smooth moving logo as live wallpaper better for your eyes? But it would need to use a VOLVO car, hahaha. :D

No all is on my table so far. Not yet installed to my C4. I need to make some correction that it does display the new selected logo in preview window. When ready I will publish it for Odroid users.

That's a good idea to share it, I think it will be useful for use with full brightness

I tried this live wallaper now on different devices (N2,C4, M1) and different displays. I am not so satisfied. On VU7+ it's looking smooth and the CPU load is about 4% with 20 updates per second. But on bigger screens like VU8M or my desktop screen it becomes to move the logo not so smooth anymore. Also the CPU load rises like 25% :o with the V8M on M1.
This is likely due to the method to paint with canvas and the more pixels the more CPU load. Sadly it's complicated to paint a vector scaled image with OpenGL, what would be a much smoother experience...
