VU7C 2x20pin header

Post by zyssai »

Hi.

Is it possible to remove this 2x20pin header?
I need to connect a female ribbon cable.

Image

I don't know If it's soldered or not.
In the worst case I will use adapter.

I think it's much easier to connect a male ribbon cable. It's easy to make one yourself.

You just squeeze it on a ribbon with pliers and it's ready. BUT you'll have to be super careful and test if pin #1 is where it is supposed to be. I never tried male connectors on IDC ribbons, but you really don't want to mess up pin order.
If you want to use an adapter, the same applies - check it twice.

Although I would try and carefully lift that top plastic part with female outputs. It does look like a female-female adapter of its own..

And thank you for this photo, you helped me find a perfect chip for my project! :D exactly what I wanted.

Too late, I already connected it reverted yesterday, the 1 into the 2,... Etc, because of ribbon cable from male to male with extender.
It seems to made no damages, except that it doesn't power on, the red light shuts itself off immediately.

I already tried it, I think it's this a female extender, soldered to the PCB.

I wasn't sure if it existed until I checked for you, so we both learned. :)

No worries, I did exactly the same with my Odroid M1, except I swapped pin 1 with pin 40  Also no damages happened, fortunately..
That is why I requested bigger pin numbers on PCB of M1 and my request was accepted. :)

I think this will not fit because the pins seems to be designed for soldering to a PCB.

I will certainly use something like this, even if it adds one more piece to the puzzle

Edit:
If think I have found something, don't know if it can fit

I think you may be somewhat right, that one I linked has a recommended PCB pattern.
But on the other hand, male headers are both solderable and fit to female connectors, just like on any SBC. So I guess there is no significant difference and you could use it for your purpose.

The male-male adapter will work too, at least in terms of physical connection.
And the last one you have just found also looks fine to me. Why won't you order both just in case. :)

You're right, but I just have doubt about the pin length, I don't know if it will fit hard into the connector.

I will probably order those two ones, fortunately it is not expensive :D
