Screen standby with VU5A (on XU4Q card)

Post by kcanto » Mon May 04, 2020 2:46 am

Hello,

I am a Hardkernel lover and I work actually on a project of an ultra luxurious assistant (clock, music station, automation). It will be in high quality materials, very beautiful and useful. Also, it will be on sale on a website and i hope in physical shops.
For this, I use a Odroid XU4Q card and I enjoy it :-)
However i meet an issue and i hope that you could solve it, it concerne the display that i use with my XU4Q, a VU5A :
When i put the screen in standby, the backlight turn off, after no signal apparead and the backlight turn on, next it become again turned off, ...
I would like when i put the screen in standby it turn off and it remains.

I have seen in Hardkernel website :

« Known issues.
3. There is no backlight control except for the slide switch. So software can’t adjust the brightness neither turn on-off the backlight. »

Is it planned a new version of VU5A which could turn off the backlight (and don’t print « no signal ») when the screen is in standby ?

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Kevin

I'm guessing you don't want to modify the existing screens, right? You could wire a transistor to one of xu4's gpio pins and replace that slide switch with a transistor (most likely).
Or
where does the vu5 draw power from? If from xu4's usb you could search for usb on/off gpio (if it exists - I don't remember) and cut power to the usb bus...

We have no plan to revise the Vu series hardware at this moment.
