Odroid XU4 Help Needed

Unread postby sangmin92 » Wed Jan 11, 2017 4:58 am

I have been trying to get the GPIO working for the Odroid XU4, and despite the many tutorials, it does not seem to work.

Here are the steps that we have followed:
1) We have downloaded "ubuntu-14.04lts-server-odroid-xu3-20150725.img" from this website: http://odroid.in/ubuntu_14.04lts/ and installed it on the Odroid.
2) We updated the kernel. Running 'uname -a' shows that the version is
Code: Select all
 Linux odroid-server 3.10.82 #1 SMP PREEMPT ...

3) We installed wiringPi (git clone https://github.com/hardkernel/wiringPi) with root permission.

To check to see if GPIO works, we tried
Code: Select all
 gpio readall
but we get the following error message:

Code: Select all
Oops - unable to determine board type... model: 0

Given the examples online, the GPIO pins should be working, and we are perplexed as to why it's not working for us.
If you could help us figure it out, that would be much appreciated. Thank you

Did you update the kernel via odroid-utility?
Post the full output from "uname -a".

BTW, Is there any specific reason why you don't use Ubuntu 16.04?
We are supporting 16.04 mainly.

Thank you for the quick reply.

1) Yes, we updated through the odroid-utility.sh. Do we need to re-boot after the update?

2) Here are the full outputs after the kernel update.

"uname -a"
Code: Select all
 Linux odroid-server 3.10.82 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jul 14 01:28:23 BRT 2015 armv71 armv71 armv71 GNU/Linux

After installing the wiringpi, here are the full outputs.

"gpio readall"
Code: Select all
Oops - unable to determine board type ... model 0

"gpio -v"
Code: Select all

gpio version: 2.33
Copyright (c) 2012-2014 Gordon Henderson
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
For details type: gpio -warranty

Your Raspberry Pi has an unknown model type. Please report this to projects@drogon.net
with a copy of your /proc/cpuinfo if possible

Checking "/proc/cpuinfo" reveals the following information:
Code: Select all
Hardware   :   ODROID-XU3
Revision      :   0000

3) We are not using 16.04 because of some past concerns about compatibility with ROS.

Thank you so much!

The kernel is very old one. It was built a few years ago.
Yes, you needed to reboot the board after kernel update.
